SHILLONG: Meghalaya state president of the National People’s Party Dr WR Kharlukhi has stated that the entry of Dr DD Lapang as national vice president of the party will create a positive impact in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the State, especially in Garo Hills.

Speaking to The Sentinel Dr Kharlukhi said, “He (Lapang) is a very senior leader and was also the former president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and former Chief Minister of the State and is well known across the State especially in Garo Hills.”

He also pointed out that the party is gaining in strength when compared with its past performance in both the KHADC and JHADC elections.

“In the year 2009, we were able to win in only four constituencies in the JHADC election. However, this time around, things have changed for the positive as the party has managed to form the Executive Committee in both the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) by forging an alliance with our partners from other political parties who are within the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government,” he said.

Stating that Lapang is a man with huge experience in the field of politics, he expressed disbelieve in the manner in which the Congress disregarded such a senior leader of its party.
