Dreaming is not a crime: Dr Pubali Agarwal

Itanagar: “Dreaming is not a crime as advocated by former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam to empower people with special abilities (PwSAs) to make them invaluable part of the humanity,” said Delhi University faculty Dr Pubali Agarwal.

She was addressing students and teachers of Special Education Department of Himalyan University (HU), Arunachal unit of National Institute of Locomotor Disability and Hill College of Teachers Eduction (HCTU), while attending the concluding function of two-day national seminar on “Inclusive Education Empowering PwSAs and Ensuring Inclusiveness”.

She involved the students making it an interactive session and left all spellbound when Tashi Lhamu, a 4th semester Hindi student of the university, walked blind folded within the gathering with instruction.

The maiden seminar was organized by HCTE near here in collaboration with Indian Academy of Cerebral Palsy (IACP).

IACP president Dr K D Mallikarjun gave a thought provoking presentation on how to treat people cerebral palsy disorder citing examples. He was assisted by Prof Jayanti Pujari, dean and HoD of rehabilitation science of Amity University.

All out efforts should be made to reach the unreached children and parents by widening the knowledge in all spheres. Trans-disciplinary approach, is the process to reach one and all, he said in response to a question.

The event concluded with an educative interactive session with Dr Agarwal, Dr Mallikarjun, Prof Pujari, Delhi education directorate’s special educator Dr Ravi KM and HCTE principal Dr Manjula Mohapatra responding to numerous queries.

However, Kavita Natung, a PwSA and a BEd student of HCTE, drew everyone’s attentions when she indicated the injustice of State government reflected in an advertisement for teachers, particularly reserved for PwSAs.

Highlighting the problems confronting State’s PwSAs, HCTE principal Dr Manjula Mohapatra said the workshop would serve as a boon not only for the sufferers but also for intending service providers.
