Drowned youth’s body recovered in Subansiri River, Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The body of Pulin Phukan (32), who drowned in Subansiri River in Lakhimpur on New Year’s day, was recovered at the water edge of the river at Balighat on Saturday. He was the son of Golap Phukan, resident of Salal Gaon under Panigaon Police Station of the district.

On that day, he, accompanied by five others, had gone for a picnic by the river near Khaga under the same police station. Pulin drowned while he was taking a bath in the river. Though a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), led by Panigaon Police, had launched rescue operation, the body of the youth could not be recovered.

On Saturday, some local people noticed the body on the left bank water edge of the river at Balighat and informed Panigaon Police who recovered the body by evening and sent it for post mortem. The youth, by profession a driver, leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a host of relatives.
