Drug tablets worth Rs 14 crore recovered at Karimganj

GUWAHATI: In-transit bags containing WY (World’s Yours) tablets and other drugs turn ‘unattended ones’ as and when they are detected by the police in trains, railway platforms and other places. This dreaded drugs (tablets) is being transported through trains by adopting various strategies, and such unattended bag is one of them.

Drug paddlers carry such bags in trains for transshipment of drugs and other contrabands. If such bags are not detected while in transit, paddlers can take them to their destinations where they are supplied to the end users. However, whenever such bags are detected by GRP or RPF personnel, they can hardly ascertain the owners of such bags. In such situations, there is no way out but to tag such bags as ‘unattended’ ones.

In one such incident, the personnel of Karimganj GRP OP recovered 2,80,000 WY tablets in 1,400 packets from the Silchar-Agartala passenger train at Karimganj Railway Station on Monday. The entire consignment was kept in two bags, but they failed to detect their owner/owners. The contraband items were seized by police in the presence of witnesses. The market value of the seized items is around Rs. 14 crore (one tablet costs Rs 500 in the black market).
