Dry day declared across State during the day of Vijaya Dashami

Tezpur: With a view to maintain public peace and tranquillity and to prevent any untoward incident related to consumption of liquor during the day of Vijaya Dashami to be celebrated on October 19. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Monoj Kumar Deka, Sonitpur issued an order under provisions of section 51(I) of Assam Excise Act, 2000. An official press release issued on Tuesday stated that during the day all IMFL off, clubs, CS shop premises of Sonitpur district will remain closed on October 19. This order has been enforced in the entire district with immediate effect.

Hailakandi: The Hailakandi district administration has declared a dry day on Vijaya Dashami during Durga Puja celebration in the district. In an order issued to this effect on Friday, District Magistrate, in-charge, FR Laskar, declared closure of all IMFL off and on shops, country spirit shops on October 19 on Vijaya Dashami for maintenance of peace, security and discipline. Exercising powers conferred under Section 52(I) of the Assam Excise Act, 2000, Laskar said, “No sale, consumption or possession of any intoxicant should take place on that day. Violation of this order shall be dealt with seriously under the relevant provisions of the Assam Excise Act, 2000.

Dibrugarh: The District Magistrate has ordered all liquor shops in the district to shut their operations on Vijaya Dashami. Aimed at maintaining the peaceful environment, the use or sale of liquor in all local liquor shops, imported liquor shops, warehouses and beer shops has been prohibited on the aforementioned date. Violation of the order will attract appropriate legal punishment.
