Dustbin Becomes Eyesore For Dibrugarh Residents

Dibrugarh: The residents near the Old Dibrugarh Railway Station have been having a harrowing time for at least more than a year, if not more. The reason is a dustbin pit that has been a cause of great annoyance for the people residing in that locality.

Despite complaints and petitions to the authorities concerned, including Dibrugarh Municipal Board and DC office, respite has not dawn upon the pathetic and gloomy situation. Anyone taking the RKB Path from the Mazhar Charali side will come across this eyesore with heaps of garbage being strewn around the dustbin, filling the area with a pungent foul smell. The footpath which is behind the dustbin has also been rendered useless as people have an aversion to using it because of its proximity to the dustbin. Moreover, the fact that the footpath is also broken at few places only makes things worse. AK Dey, a retired government servant, said, “We are forced to use the main road under such conditions. But by doing that we are inviting trouble as the area is quite accident-prone.” Sharing his anguish, Paritosh Gupta, a retired bank employee, said, “We’ve had enough. A permanent solution is long overdue. Our family members, especially children, run the risk of catching infection in such unhygienic conditions. Who will take the responsibility in the event of any untoward incident?”

The residents have appealed to the newly elected MP of Dibrugarh, Rameshwar Teli to help them find a way out of this trouble.
