East Zone Sainik Schools Sports Championship concludes

Goalpara, July 13: The East Zone Sainik Schools Sports and Co-curricular Championship came to a close at Sainik School (SS) Goalpara on Friday. Commander Reena Magdalene (Retd) graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed the prizes. The matches were played with full gusts and vigour and the last few days saw many nail biting finishes.

Cadets of Sainik School Purulia (West Bengal), Sainik School Imphal (Manipur), Sainik School Punglwa (Nagaland) and the host Goalpara Sainik school proved their mettle in football (U-14 & U-17), basketball, volleyball, hockey, English and Hindi debate, quiz and a variety entertainment show. The school wore a festive look and the atmosphere was electric and charges for the past five days.

An enthralling cultural performance by Anajori Cultural troupe, Dudhnoi mesmerized the audience and gave them an overview of the folk dances and attires in Assam.

On the sports front SS Imphal bagged first position in Football U-14, SS Punglwa bagged first position in Basketball and SS Goalpara bagged winner’s trophies in Football U-17, Volleyball and Hockey. In co-corricular activities SS Purulia and SS Punglwa bagged first position in English Debate and Variety Entertainment Show respectively. SS Goalpara bagged first prize in Quiz. The Discipline Trophy was bagged by SS Punglwa. Sainik School Goalpara emerged Overall Champion of the tournament.

Cadet Sridarth Nongmei Kapam (IX) of SS Imphal and Cadet Lobsang Topgey (X) of SS Goalpara were adjudged best player in Football U-14 and Football U-17 respectively. Cadet Nitesh Kumar Sapkota (X) and Cadet Suresh Kumar (XI) from SS Goalpara were adjudged best player in Volleyball and Hockey. Cadet Rokozobei Nisa (XI) of SS Punglwa was adjudged Highest Scorer with a total of 85 baskets in his credit. Cadet Mayukh Dutta (X) of SS Goalpara bagged the prize of Best Master of Ceremony in Variety Entertainment Show.
