Education Minister faces flak from Secretariat staff

GUWAHATI, July 13: Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharyya is facing the wrath of employees of Janata Bhawan for allegedly misbehaving and suspending one Chandan Kakoty, a senior assistant working at State Secretariat.

Kakoty was allegedly misbehaved and subsequently suspended from his service by the Education minister after the former put up a file to transfer an officer of the education department. Bhattacharyya had reportedly lost his temper after seeing that the file was put up by Kakoty had incorporated notes of both the education minister and power minister Topon Kumar Gogoi to transfer the official. The education minister was against incorporating the note from Topon Kumar Gogoi in the transfer order file.

Miffed at the development the Assam Secretariat Service Association on Friday termed the development as unfortunate and demanded immediate withdrawal suspension order of Kakoty. The association threatened to launch a democratic movement if its demand is not met. A meeting of the association will be held on July 16 to discuss the next course of action on the issue. Kakoty accused Bhattacharyya of using foul languages to verbally abuse him.
