Eight bike lifters arrested

JORHAT, Dec 13: Lichubari outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Uttam Baruah led a police team and arrested at least eight bike lifters from two locations, Changaria and Cinmora, on the outskirts of Jorhat city and recovered two Pulsar 220 bikes, two scooty and 32 mobile phone handsets from their possession. Sources said that investigation and interrogation to the eight arrested was on and more inputs were likely as the group was involved with an inter-State car and bike lifters’ gang operating from Dimapur.

The eight arrested are Mirl Bora (18), Kakhi Kanta Baruah (23), Debyan Kalita (18), Sumon Sarma (22), Amlanjyoti Borah (18), all from Chariangia under Pulibor outpost while Dennis Baruah (19)  and Zia-ul Rahn (22) from Cinmora under Cinmora out-post under Jorhat district. Many organizations and intellectuals lauded the bold step and effort taken by Jorhat Police.
