Election Commission Has Become A puppet of The BJP: Congress

GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Ripun Bora scoffed that the Election Commission (EC) has become the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s puppet and slamming the BJP National President Amit Shah’s remark on the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Bora insisted that the Supreme Court should conduct a Suo Moto case. He then went on to assert that the Congress party will win eight to ten seats in this year’s Lok Sabha elections in the state.

At a press communiqué at Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday, Bora came on strongly against the EC and commented, “The EC has become a puppet of the BJP.” He alleged that the Congress party’s complaints regarding the BJP’s violation of the Model Code of Conduct fell into deaf ears as the EC did not take any action. He criticized that the BJP openly and brazenly violated the democratic and constitutional norms while the EC turned a blind eye to it all. “We highly condemn the role of the Commission in both the Centre and Sate including the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam”, he said.

Regarding the poll outcome, Bora remarked that the Congress party won excessive support of the people of the state. “The party will win 8 to 10 seats in the state. Increasing number of electorate turnout is indicative of the fact that the masses desire change. There was a Congress undercurrent and the people voted with a clear conscience. The Modi wave was missing this time and even Modi himself was aware about it, which was evident from his body language. My assertions are from self assessment as well as external sources”, claimed Bora.

Slamming Amit Shah’s remark about completing the NRC process only after Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) implementation, Bora said, “The proposition is both undemocratic and irresponsible. The entire NRC process is directed under the supervision of the Supreme Court. As such, the Supreme Court should conduct a Suo Moto case against the condescending remark of Shah.”

The APCC President also expressed suspicion regarding the security of the Strong Room and commented that he was concerned that the EVMs might get tampered or even changed. As such, he informed that the Congress party might arrange for additional security. Bora further demanded that during the counting of polls, the VVPAT machine’s votes should also be counted.
