Election Commission of India lifts the provision of Model Code of Conduct

Itanagar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday lifted the provision of Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which was enforced from the date of announcement of the schedule for general elections to the Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assembly in four States of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim, and by-polls. In a letter to the Cabinet Secretary, Chief Secretaries and Chief Electoral Officers of all States/Union Territories, the Election Commission said that the result in respect of the aforesaid elections has been declared, the MCC has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect. “Model code of conduct has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect after results of Lok Sabha elections and Legislative assemblies in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim,” ECI letter read. The Model Code of Conduct came into effect on April 10 after the announcement of the election schedule. Polls were held from April 11 to May 19, and results were declared on May 23.
