Election fever grips Dima Hasao

Haflong: As the date for election to the 12th NC Hills Autonomous Council is nearing, election fever has gripped Dima Hasao. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded 28 candidates in 28 NCHAC constituencies while Indian National Congress has fielded 28, Asom Gana Parishad has fielded 23 and National People’s Party has fielded 15 and others as independent candidates. As the election is drawing near, the people of Dima Hasao are very enthusiastic since this time the election to the council is being considered to be unprecedented.

The number of independent candidates is very high this time as several poll aspirants of different parties who were denied party ticket are contesting the election as independents. High profile leaders like president of District BJP, Nipolal Hojai and president of DCC, Nirmal Langthasa are contesting from Daotuhaja, present Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa is contesting from Dehangi as BJP candidate, former Chief Executive Member Debojeet Thaosen is contesting from Langting as AGP candidate, former MP and CEM Prakanta Warisa is contesting from Haflong as AGP candidate while former MLA and Chief Executive Member Samarjit Haflongbar is contesting from Gunjung as NPP.

The people of Dima Hasao said that this time they would not commit any blunder while selecting their leaders as they had realized that if they select the wrong people, they would have to suffer a lot in future. They are in no mood to suffer any further. They said that this time local candidates would enjoy the advantage as local leaders understand their sentiments and do good for them. This time party affiliation will not be the prime criterion for the voters. They only understand peace, development and integrity.
