Emphasis laid on congenial police-public relations

Goalpara, February 21: A regiol level awareness-cum-interactive session on police accountability with the public and police officers was held in Goalpara on Friday.

The programme was organized by the State Police Accountability Commission (SPAC), in collaboration with Goalpara police DEF, for Bongaigaon and Goalpara districts. A threadbare discussion on the Assam Police Act, 2007, including the duties and responsibilities of police personnel was held during the meeting. Besides other subjects, the interaction between people of both the districts and police personnel was interesting. Several people shared their bitter experiences with the department. Sibabrata Kakoti, retired IPS and member, SPAC replied to the queries of the people.

Earlier, JVN Subramanyam, Goalpara Deputy Commissioner and Biswajit Pegu, Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner, spoke about the legal bindings of police personnel. They emphasized a congenial relationship between the police and public.

Presided over by PK Mushahary, retired Gauhati High Court judge, the meeting succeeded to bridge the gap between the police and the public.  HC Dutta , retired IPS and secretary SPAC, SA Karim, DIG (BIEO), BK Chetri, APS and chief investigation officer, Mahesh Sarma SP (i/c), Goalpara and Abhijit Borah, SP, Bongaigaon were also present in the meeting.
