Itanagar, June 13: Arunachal East MP Ninong Ering has sought the intervention of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha for early construction of the Greenfield Airport in Hollongi. Ering, who called on Sinha here on Tuesday, submitted a representation to the Union Minister in this regard.

While expressing gratefulness to the civil aviation ministry for starting commercial flights to Pasighat, the MP expressed regret that the Hollongi greenfield airport has yet to see the day. “It is very unfortunate that Itanagar is one of the few capital cities in India which does not have an airport. It is learned that there were some technical lacunae for which the airport had not yet been cleared. But through your intervention, the airport can be approved and the process of land acquisition can be started very soon,” Ering wrote. He requested the union ministry to initiate the process for early construction of the Hollongi airport through the union/state government. Earlier, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Arunachal Pradesh Land Management Minister Nabam Rebia to look into the land issue in Hollongi. In May this year, the state cabinet approved the recommendations of the committee which was submitted to the union civil aviation ministry.
