Error-Free NRC Must For Clause-V Implementation: CM Sarbananda Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a meeting at Brahmaputra State Guest House to discuss various issues pertaining to the claim and objection process during the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updating work on Friday.

The hearings for the claims and objections regarding the NRC update process have started from February 15 at 1436 centers across the state. In the final draft of NRC, names of 40.37 lakh people were not included out of which 36.28 lakh have claimed for inclusion and 2 lakh people have registered their objections.

Saying that the process for preparing an error-free NRC has been going on under the direct supervision of Supreme Court of India in which both the central and state governments have extended support, the chief minister called on all officials engaged in the work to ensure smooth completion of the hearing process of claims and objections. An error-free NRC would make the implementation of Clause 5 of Assam Accord possible, Sarbananda Sonowal said.
