Ex-UDP member to join PDF

SHILLONG, Sept 6: With 2018 elections drawing near, the political permutations and combitions in Meghalaya are changing at a rapid pace.
Now, Hamlet Dohling, a former member of the United Democratic Party (UDP) from Mylliem constituency, has clarified it was the party that distanced itself from him and not the other way round.
Dohling had tendered his resigtion to the UDP president and general secretary on 2nd September. He resigned from the positions of general secretary of the UDP youth wing, president of youth wing of East Khasi Hills and executive member of the fince committee.
It may be mentioned that the Mylliem circle of the UDP party has rejected the decision of the Coordition Committee of Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and UDP alliance pertaining to the seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties with respect to Mylliem.
Dohling said the alliance between the UDP and HSPDP has failed from the very start and now it is only a matter of time before the alliance of the two party crumbles because it is aimed at enhancing the chance of victory of a few candidates from both the parties. Dohling said that recently he along with leaders of UDP from Mylliem had met the party leaders, including party president Dr Donkupar Roy, to convey their views that the alliance is not workable.
He further alleged that the alliance is a ploy of the HSPDP to weaken the UDP in the upcoming 2018 polls.
Dohling added that he and his supporters from Mylliem have stopped their association with the UDP and will associate with the newly-floated political party, the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), on Friday and to contest the 2018 polls from the party.
