Executive editor of Bodosa passes away

KOKRAJHAR, May 3: Executive editor of Bodosa daily newspaper, Jeowari Basumatary, who was also lecturer of Fakiragram College, allegedly committed suicide inside the office-cum-residence of Bodosa Publications in the heart of Kokrajhar town on Thursday. She was just 32 and leaves behind her mother, an elder sister and elder brother. She was the daughter of Chino Basumatary, former president of All Assam Small Newspaper Owners’ Association and chief editor of Bodosa.

Family sources said the reason behind her suicide was not known as she had not left any note citing the reason for this drastic step. Sources said she returned to Kokrajhar from Guwahati with family members after a medical check-up on Wednesday evening. She spent the night with her mother in a room but in the morning, she went to another room and committed suicide, added sources.  The police were informed and they took the body to the police station. Later, her body was cremated at her birth place Bhaolaguri, Kashikotra in Chirang district after post-mortem in presence of a large number of well-wishers and villagers. Her demise has been condoled by the Kokrajhar Press Club, teachers of Fakiragram College and Bodo Writers’ Academy.
