Exhibition addresses perils of drunken driving

New Delhi, April 30: Liquor bottles of various brands are displayed as gory art objects that attract death and destruction at an exhibition here that aims to warn about the perils of combining drinking and driving. Organised by Community Against Drunken Driving (CADD), the exhibition was iugurated on Wednesday evening and on display are twelve liquor bottles that highlight how spirits can shorten your life. “A cause is like a product that needs to be marketed in such a way that it gives visibility to the campaign,” Prince Singhal, activist and founder of CADD, told IANS.

“Through this exhibition I want to tell people how they drink the contents of the bottle and how it ends up drinking your life and senses,” he added. It was in 2001 that Singhal left a plush corporate job to become a full time activist to campaign against drunken driving. At that time, he felt no one was bothered about people who lost their lives after being mowed down by a drunk driver.

“So many innocent lives are lost everyday and it is because of someone who prefers to drive while drinking. But I am glad the effort has paid off and the government and police are getting stricter day-by-day to b the culprits,” he said. “I hope the laws are made more strict for people to stop mixing the two. After all, life is precious,” he said. The exhibition is on at the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society gallery till May 1. (IANS)
