Expert teams with equipments visit Ksan Village

Shillong: The two teams from Hyderabad and Chennai along with equipments on Sunday visited Ksan in East Jaintia Hills where 15 miners are trapped in an illegal coal mine since December 13 last year. The team was joined by a hydrologist from the Roorkee-based National Institute of Hydrology.

Exactly a month after the incident, the teams of experts, who visited the site were Dr. Devashish Kumar, Senior Scientist CSIR-NGRI Hyderabad and his team, Dr. Niraj Kumar, Scientist Gravity and Magnetic Group and his team, Jayanti Gogoi, GPR, Vineet Upadhyay, ROV team LCAP Chennai and his team. Also Dr sudhir kumar scientist G, National institute of hydrology, Roorkee visited the site.

“They have placed their logistics requirement to the district administration and they will start their survey and operation prevalent to their field of expertise tomorrow,” East Jaintia Hills, Deputy Commissioner FM Dopth said.

Meanwhile, on Sunday pumping of water continued in the main shafts where the miners are trapped and as well as the nearby mines.

According to spokesperson of the rescue operation, R Susngi, Kirloskar had been pumping the water from the main shaft from Saturday evening from 5pm to 11 am on Sunday morning with a break of one hour for refueling.

The quality discharge is 15, 30, 000 liters, Susngi informed.

The Coal India Limited ran their pump in the adjacent old shaft from Saturday evening at 5 pm to 11 am today and the total discharge of water was 19, 27, 800 liters.

Also the Odisha Fire Service team started their pumping operation at 11 am on Sunday in the old shaft.

The KSB a company from German, based in Pune also operated their pumps even as the Indian Navy divers operated their ROV in the main shaft.
