It was alleged that some persons forcibly entered the MLA’s cottage here on July 17 and tried to extort money from him. The SP said the police acted swiftly on receiving the complaint and arrested one Hapwang Lowang, president of a students’ union and a resident of Kheti village in Tirap district.

An APPBn constable was also detained in this connection, the SP informed, adding that since there was no complaint against him by the MLA a letter has been written to the Commandant to take action against the jawan for his suspicious behavior.

In his FIR, the MLA reported that the alleged accused person along with one Khimhun of Changlang district has entered his cottage on July 17 “without permission”, misbehaved with him, demanded Rs 1.50 lakh as extortion money and physically assaulted him.
