Fair Price Shop Automation project launched in city

Shillong, April 3:  Director of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, IR Sangma today iugurated the pilot project of Fair Price Shop Automation for East Khasi Hills District at the Conference Hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar, officials from Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, NIC, proprietors of fair price shops and representative from Link Well Tele System Pvt. Ltd, a release stated.

Speaking on the occasion, Sangma said that this project is the initiative of the Central Government and the main objective of the Fair Price  Shop  Automation is to reduce leakage and diversion of commodities and to ensure the distribution of ration to the real target beneficiaries under the Food Security Act in a transparent manner.

In the first phase of the pilot project, 10 fair price shops were selected in the city to implement the project by installing the electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) devices at FPSs for electronic recording of subsidised food grain distribution to beneficiaries. The system will also generate an electronic slip mentioning the details of the beneficiaries, like rate and quantity of ration delivered, the release added.
