Familiarization exercise on disaster management underway at East Kameng district

Itanagar, May 13: With a view to educating people about disaster preparedness and strengthen disaster response, East Kameng District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with the 12th Battalion of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) of Itanagar has launched a two-week-long series of familiarization exercise on disaster management in the district.

During the day-long programme that was organized at Kameng Presidium School at Seppa on Saturday, the team of NDRF personnel led by inspectors Bhaskar Kumar and Manish Kumar Chaudhary and Sub-Inspector Ram Singh Sahni briefly demonstrated basic steps and techniques of rescue during disasters and also highlighted the use of improvised tools and methods from locally available resources.

The NDRF men also explained about the precautions to be taken during disasters. The team also gave a live demonstration of rescue operation, way of operating rescue equipment and administering first aid to injured persons and other related acts of rescue to the audience.

Moreover, the NDRF team explained the people about disaster preparedness and safety tips to reduce the extent of damages. They also demonstrated various techniques to rescue people caught during disasters like fire, earthquake and other natural calamities.

Speaking on safety rules, precautions and response during natural or man-made disasters, inspector Kumar said disasters may occur anywhere anytime. He urged the people to learn the modern techniques to stay safe during disaster.

Stating that the Himalayan region including Arunachal Pradesh is very prone to earthquake, he said the common people of the region should be kept on alert in this regard.

Kumar said there are many improved techniques, which can be applied during disaster to save lives and properties. He also explained many techniques and methods of rescue operation and elaborated on how a disaster victim can be evacuated to safe zones, a press release said here on Sunday.
