Financial assistance to Biswanath farmers

Biswanath Chariali: State Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma started distribution of financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to around 15,200 farmers under 76 Gaon Panchayats in Biswanath district to purchase agricultural equipment on Saturday in a public meeting held at the Circuit House field.

Addressing the meeting, minister Brahma said that the State Government had laid much emphasis on the agriculture sector during its rule and as a result, the State made remarkable progress in the field. It could even bring recognition and award of excellence from the Central Government, she added. She called upon the officers and employees of the Department of Agriculture for timely action to provide the essentials such as seed, manure and irrigation facilities to farmers so that they could produce good harvest.

She also stressed the need of modernization in the agriculture sector. Pabitra Ram Khaund, Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath district, dwelt at length on the activities carried out by the agriculture department in the district for the benefits of the farmers. The meeting was also addressed by Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur, Gohpur MLA Utpal Borah and social worker Amiya Bhuyan while the welcome address was delivered by Pradeep Sonowal, District Agriculture Officer, Biswanath.
