KOKRAJHAR, April 16: Altogether 88 scootys  as well as cash incentives were distributed by the BTC Education Department recently among BPL girl students during the second day programme of the 6th Baukhungri Festival at Nwlwbari in Kokrajhar. During the programme, the department distributed financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to three HSLC, HSSLC and AHM rank holders, Rs 1.50 lakh as first instalment to 12 students for UPSC coaching, Rs 2 lakh each to 18 IIT students, Rs 2 lakh each to 8 IIM students, Rs. 1 lakh each as first instalment to 41 medical students, Rs. 50,000 each as first instalment to 22 NIT students, Rs.50,000 each to 88 students for pursuing Ph.D and 88 scootys to BPL girl students. BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgayari who was the chief guest, and other dignitaries gave away the cash awards and scootys.

In his speech, BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgayari said that the literary rate in area was extremely low before 2003 but the pace of developmental activities by the BTC authority had brought about a change in the field of education. He further assured of implementing various student welfare schemes through proper planning. EMs Doneswar Goyary and Ansumwi Khungur Boro also requested the students to properly use the financial assistance for their academic career. Earlier, hills trekking competitions for men and women were also held from Harinaguri High School playground where Yagendra Kumar of Uttar Pradesh, Vijay Deka of Assam, and Dulu Sarkar of West Bengal bagged first, second and third position respectively. In the women’s section, Sameli Singh of West Bengal, Dipali Chutia of Assam and Matuara Ahmed of Assam won the first, second  and third prize.
