First Experimental Engine Runs on Bogibeel Bridge

A Correspondent

Dibrugarh: Things inched towards the throwing open of the mighty Bogibeel project to the public on Thursday when an engine chugged down one of the two railway tracks present on the lower half of the bridge. After getting the railway lane ready for use the previous night, the Railways Department, on an experimental basis, ran a bogey pulled by an engine on it the next day. The bogey was run successfully from one end of the bridge, that is to say, Bogibeel in Dibrugarh to the other, which is Kulajan in Dhemaji.

The fourth bridge over the Brahmaputra, the project is believed to be no less than a godsend for the people of both the banks of the river. Besides, the people of Arunachal Pradesh, especially the south-eastern part of the State, have also pinned their hopes on the bridge, for they would be able to travel to Dibrugarh – regarded as the centre of healthcare of Eastern Assam as well as an educational hub - more easily and frequently.
