GUWAHATI, Dec 23: A 60-year-old patient, known diabetic and hypertensive had a history of corory artery disease with status post corory artery bypass grafting surgery (CABG) in 2011. He was admitted in down town hospital on December 19 last with the complaints of repeated episodes of palpitation and presyncope since last 6 months.

He was evaluated with non-invasive tests (ECG, Echocardiography, 24 hours Holter monitoring and other biochemical test). He was found to have severe left ventricle systolic dysfunction with left ventricle ejection fraction of 30%. His resting electrocardiogram showed Normal Sinus Rhythm with left bundle branch and 24 hours holter showed multiple runs of Non-sustained ventricular tachycardias (NSVT) without significant pause.

As per ACC/AHA guideline he is a patient of implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation for primary prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD).

Considering his age and other comorbidities it was decided by the team of Cardiologists to implant MRI compatible ICD for him along with GDMT (guideline directed medical therapy) which is first of its kind implantation in the North East Region. Post implantation feedback reported that the patient has recovered uneventfully. This was stated in a press release.
