Shillong, May 31: Alleging government apathy to its list of demands, the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers association (KJDSTA) has decided to launch its first phase of agitation by Monday. The KJDSTA is persisting that the teachers should be remunerated as per the state 5th Pay Commission.

Addressing media persons here today, KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang said, “It is really unfortunate that the Government is yet to respond to our demand despite the two-week deadline. If there is no positive response from the Government till Sunday, then from Monday we will start the agitational programme.” He further informed that the first programme will be the wearing of black arm bands by the deficit school teachers throughout the State. According to Nongsiang, the teachers will intensify their agitational programme if there is no response from the Government till June 6. “We will announce our next phase of agitations during the public rally which will be held at Madan Iewrynghep on June 6,” the KJDSTA president said. He also said that as per information available, the Directorate had already submitted the financial implications to the Government, adding that the matter now is pending before the Government.
