Five students hospitalized after consuming deworming drugs

GOLAGHAT/DHEKIAL, Feb 9: Five students were hospitalized after consuming deworming drugs in Golaghat on Thursday while more than 40 students fell ill.

On the eve of tiol Deworming Day, various programmes were held by the Health Department. In Golaghat town, the programme held at the 5 No. Mudoloi Gaon Balika Buniyadi Vidyalaya was iugurated by Dr Sunita Ekka along with the officials of Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital. Later, in a primary school situated at Golaghat Station Road, the Headmaster of the school, Jogen Saikia gave deworming drugs to the students. After consuming the drugs, 5 students out of 40 students suffered from severe stomachache and fell ill. The students were immediately sent to Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital. Panic prevailed among the parents of the students.

In this regard, the Superintendent of Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, Dr. Nizora Devi said that the deworming tablets should not be taken on an empty stomach.
