FKJGP questions SSAF organizers on image display

SHILLONG, May 22: The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) central body has expressed its surprise that the organizers of the Shillong Street Art Festival (SSAF) have been displaying the image of Bollywood superstar Mithun Chakraborty on various street walls in the capital city of Shillong.

The Federation posing a question to the organizers said, “In our state of Meghalaya don’t we have many famous artists by which these local lads who has a talent to imprint images on walls through graffiti can sketch the famous personality of the state who had brought laurels for Meghalaya?”

Elton Cliff Warjri, Assistant General Secretary of FKJGP said, “Yes through this Shillong Street Art Festival the local youths are getting an opportunity to work together with people from outside the state and can gain more experience and knowledge of the art, however we feel that the organizers should also recognize the many prominent artist from the state.”

He pointed out that some of the people that should be recognized just to name a few are folk singer and song writer (L) Skendrowell Syiemlieh, singer and songwriter Rana Kharkongor, famous musician and singer Lou Majaw beside others.

The FKJGP urged the organizers to also include and recognize the local talents of the state in the festival.
