SHILLONG: Investigating officer Gilbert AL Marshillong, probing into the assault on social activists – Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma – on November 8 last year at Sohshrieh, East Jaintia Hills district, on Wednesday submitted before the High Court that the report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory is still awaited.

The forensic report is awaited as DNA profiling comparison of victims and exhibits (weapons used for committing offence) is yet to be completed.

Amita had filed a petition in the court seeking a CBI probe into the incident.

Additional Advocate General produced a copy before the High Court of the letter dated April 2, 2019 addressed to the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills district, Khliehriat by the Director, Central Forensic Science Laboratory conveying that the case is under examination and that intimation will be issued for collection of report and remnants of the exhibits after completion of examination as early as possible.

“Both learned counsel for respondent No. 2 as well as the Investigating Officer assured that as soon as the requisite report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory is received, further steps whatever required will be taken up with promptitude,” Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir said in his order.

Meanwhile, the counsel for the petitioners told the court that he was not averse to the closing of the proceedings even as he stated he will lay a separate motion for transfer of the case from the court of Khliehriat to Shillong.
