Former athlete Samuel Hashah jumps into Shillong poll fray

SHILLONG: A former athlete who is proficient in the sport of kickboxing, Samuel Hashah has taken a decisive step. Samuel has announced his candidature as an independent from the Shillong Parliamentary seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held on April 11.

Hashah, a new entrant in politics, will have to contest the election against two heavyweights – Congress candidate and sitting MP, Vincent H Pala and Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) common candidate Jeminio Mawthoh, who is a former MLA of the United Democratic Party (UDP).

It may be mentioned that Hashah is from Nonghyllam village, West Khasi Hills district and at present residing at Umlyngka, Upper Shillong. He has represent the State for the past 12 years in kickboxing and presently is the president of All Meghalaya Kickboxing Association (AMKA).

Addressing reporters, in the city, Hashah said, “Even if I’m quite new in the field of politics, people should not underestimate me. I’m not rich or smart like others, however I have my knowledge and understanding about things.”
