TANGLA: With the Parliamentary election round the corner, there is enthusiasm among the voters of Mangaldai Lok Sabha constituency which encompasses Assembly segments like Kamalpur, Rangiya, Nalbari, Paneri, Kalaigaon, Sipajhar, Mangaldoi, Dalgaon, Udalguri and Mazbat.

Veteran BJP leader and sitting MP Ramen Deka is in his second term in this constituency. The people of the constituency are looking for new faces to lead the region. A young and dynamic person has been anticipated as the Congress candidate.

He is Dr Dipankar Sahariah, the person who resigned from the Assam Civil Services after serving for 12 years just to fulfil his keen desire to serve the people. It is not surprising that Dr Sahariah left the job of a civil servant for nasty politics as he comes from a political family.

His father Ramesh Chandra Sahariah was a well-known philanthropist, educationist and politician from undivided Darrang district. He was the MLA of Paneri LAC twice - in 1972 and 1978. He also served as the Home Minister of Assam. Dr Sahariah’s mother Mridula Saharia was also elected as the MLA of Paneri LAC in 1983.
