Former KHADC CEM to fight case in HC on his own

SHILLONG, Sept 7: Former Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM), Adelbert Nongrum, will be fighting his case in the Meghalaya High Court on his own.

During the hearing into the comtempt of court case on Wednesday, the Counsels sought permission from the Court to withdraw the case.

Nongrum specifically submitted that the counsels would not be representing him from now on.

“Nongrum present in person has also specifically submitted that the said counsel would not be representing him now. Accordingly, the counsel aforementioned are permitted to withdraw from this case,” the High Court said.

“We have enquired from Nongrum if any other legal assistant/lawyer be provided to which, Nongrum has specifically submitted that he would be pleading/defending his case himself and does not require any other legal assistance,” the Court added. The Meghalaya High Court had registered a case against the former KHADC CEM for allegedly making derogatory and defamatory statement against the court.
