Foundation of cancer care centre laid

MANGALDAI, June 19: Ground breaking ceremony of a 50-bedded day care cancer institute was held on Monday in the eastern part of Mangaldai Civil Hospital campus as a part of the inclusive cancer care programme under the joint venture of Assam Government and Tata Trusts Initiative called Assam Cancer Care Foundation, along with 18 other centres across the State.

Mangal Singh Jhanjhari - a cancer survivor and a journalist - lit the lamp in a ceremonial public function organized on the occasion at the campus of the new Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Several prominent persons, including legislators from Mangaldai, Sipajhar and Kalaigaon namely Gurujyoti Das, Binanda Saikia and Maheswar Boro respectively, Deputy Commissioner of Darrang Ashok Kr Barman and others also attended the function. The speakers, while speaking on the occasion, hoped that this health institution of L3 category would start functioning within the next two years and it would help a large number of cancer patients of Darrang and Udalguri with all the modern cancer care treatment, including Chemo and Radio Therapy, counselling among others.
