GOHPUR, June 24: A group of human traffickers lured four male workers from Gohpur by making fake promises of providing jobs in Arunachal Pradesh. On Thursday, activists of the All Assam Scheduled Caste Students’ Union Gohpur subdivisional committee, Assam Police, with the help of Arunachal Pradesh Police, rescued the four workers. “The gang offered us jobs. They assured us that we will get good salary. But when we joined, they started torturing us mentally and pressurized us to work over time. We informed our relatives about what we were going through over phone secretly,” said the rescued workers to media persons.

Acting on a tip-off on June 16, on behalf of All Assam Scheduled Caste Students’ Union Gohpur subdivisional committee, a team of six members along with Assam Police and Arunachal Pradesh Police conducted a search operation for the workers at Roing in Arunachal Pradesh. After a six-day long operation in Arunachal Pradesh, the team succeeded to rescue the workers safely.
