Fraud call to Basistha police station OC lands plotters in police dragnet

GUWAHATI: Basistha police station OC received a phone call on the night of May 19. The caller claimed that he was from Rajasthan and a group of people declaring themselves ULFA were assaulting his brother and demanding Rs 50 lakh. An investigation was carried out upon which it was discovered that it was a fraud call where the caller himself was involved in plotting. The caller was found to be one Joy Kishan Mahatu, 39, from Rajasthan who manoeuvred the conspiracy with three of his friends. The police caught Mahatu from Game Village under Basistha area on Monday along with three others including Rohit Singhal, 30 from Hariyana, who was caught from Bongaon in Beltola area and Biswajeet Deka, 32, from Zoo Road, who was caught from Chandmari, while one is absconding.
