Fraudulent attempts to enroll mes in NRC

SEBA detects fake admit cards

STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, April 6: A huge number of forged academic and examitions-related documents allegedly issued by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) have been detected during the NRC verification exercise exposing attempts by undeserving persons to get their mes enrolled in the updated NRC.
SEBA’s Controller of Examitions yan Jyoti Sarma told The Sentinel on Friday that the NRC authority had sent back several lakhs documents, majority of which were admit cards of HSLC and AHM examitions submitted by NRC applicants, to verify their genuineness. Even though Sarma did not spell out the exact number of forged documents, he said a huge number of admit cards and pass certificates submitted by NRC applicants were origilly not issued by the SEBA. “We have accordingly sent our verification results to the NRC authority,” he said.
Admit cards of HSLC and AHM examitions conducted by SEBA were submitted by NRC applicants as one of the documents to establish their linkages with their ancestors and become eligible to enroll their mes in the updated NRC.
The centre and roll numbers of admit cards and other documents submitted by many of the NRC applicants did not match with that of the mes in the origil certificates issued by SEBA. The documents were forged in such a manner that only proper and strict verification by the NRC authority could detect those.
Sources said more or less similar forged cases of academic and examitions-related documents came out during the verification exercise carried out by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and Gauhati University. Some NRC applicants submitted documents issued by AHSEC and Gauhati University to prove their linkages with their ancestors.
It was a tough job for SEBA to check the genuineness of admits cards submitted by the NRC applicants as the board had to examine certain documents dated back to 1965 and 1967 manually. SEBA has records of admit cards since 1963.
