Freedom fighter passes away

Golaghat, Feb 4: Freedom fighter from Melamora in Golaghat, Sarbeswar Saikia  passed away  on Friday. He was 99.  Sarbeswar Saikia had left his home and family and joined the freedom movement. He was arrested by the British and imprisoned for eight months. Sarbeswar Saikia was the last freedom fighter in the greater Melamora region. His death has been mourned by several organizations, political leaders and individuals. He leaves behind his five sons, two daughters and a host of relatives.
