GOLAGHAT, June 1: Freedom fighter, naturalist and social worker Jiban Das breathed his last at a private hospital in Guwahati on Wednesday night. He died due to old-age ailment at the age of 98. Jiban Das was born in 1920. In 1954 joined as Ranger in the forest department. He wrote more than 40 books on nature. He had made great contribution to the society. He took charge as president of Golaghat district Xakha Xahitya Xabha. He retired in 1975. The Government of Assam provided literary pension to him in 1994. Golaghat Kabi Chakra honoured him as ‘Prokriti Premi’ on 1984 and he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement in 2014. He also received tamra patra from the government for his great contribution to the country. He leaves behind three sons, six daughters and a host of relatives. His death has been widely mourned by the people of Golaghat and many organizations.
