Agartala: Huge quantity of Ganja worth Rs 17 lakh was seized by Airport Authority at Agartala Airport on Thursday.

The Airport Authority claimed that the consignment was to be sent to Air India Cargo through a private courier agency in Agartala.

They further stated that the consignment was booked for a shipment in Kolkata, however, the matter came to light during a routine checkup by Air India Cargo Department confirms an official Sanjit Debbarma.

At least 6 big packets carrying a huge amount Ganjas weighing 170 KG were recovered during the checking.

Following the incident, Debbarma informed the matter to the Airport Police Station.

Under the aegis of Sub-Divisional Police official (SDPO), Dhrubo Nath, a huge police team reached the spot and seized the Ganja and apprehended one Amitabh Dutta (34) in connection with the incident.

SDPO Nath also stated before the media that during interrogation, Amitab Dutta had accused one Bapi Choudhury to be involved in the consignment deal.

It is also alleged that the main accused Bapi earlier was involved in shipping Ganjas via Airlines.

Meanwhile, police are in search of accused Bapi Choudhury.

Further investigations are on.
