Boko, February 4: Garo tiol Council, Kamrup district, and Garo Women Council condemned the recent kidpping of two persons- Dhansingh Rabha (JCB driver) and Heman Rabha from Gindopara in North Garo hills district. The kidppings have raised tension among the local residents where villagers have been engaged in efforts to bring back peace among the two communities in the region. A public meeting was held at Santipur where GNC condemned the kidpping by suspected Garo tiol Liberation Army (GNLA) militants led by its northern area commander, Philiport. The meeting was attended by Benedict Alok Areng, president, Garo tiol Council, Kamrup and Goalpara, who said, “This act is condemble and deplorable. No one from Garo community can support this.  We appeal to the abductors of the two men to immediately set them free so that we can all live in peace. Moreover, in future also, any organization or outfit should not do such a thing which escalates commul tension in the area and hinders development and business activities.” “The Dalgoppa Krima (DK) will be held from February 10 to February 14 and assembly elections in the State are near. We are afraid that the abductions may be used for political benefit. In that condition the Dalgoppa Krima is under threat. We appeal to militant outfits to surrender and to join the mainstream,” he added.
