After hearing the BJP leader’s petition, Justice Suman Shyam set aside the order passed by the Nagaon Chief Judicial Magistrate on November 16 last year taking cognisance of the criminal proceedings.

Furthermore, hitting upon the “party insiders”, Union Minister for Railways Rajen Gohain said, "Few party insiders who are against me had tried to act foul to tarnish my political image."

Earlier, sitting MP Rajen Gohain had withdrawn his name from contesting the Lok Sabha elections due to charges of rape and molestation filed against him by a woman last year.

It may be mentioned that in the year 2018, two sisters had lodged an FIR with the Assam Police against the Union Minister accusing him of rape and sexual exploitation under the pretext of giving jobs in the ministry. On the same day, Gohain’s son had filed a counter-FIR, alleging an attempt to blackmail his father by the woman and her family, police had said. On August 6, the woman, in a written request to the police, said she had filed the complaint as a result of a “misunderstanding”, and now “wanted to withdraw the complaint”.
