GCC maintains legacy of excellence in HS

GUWAHATI, May 31: Maintaining the legacy of excellence of Gauhati Commerce College (GCC), two promising students Pratiksha Bachyas and Mritika Nath have secured the 9th and 10th ranks in the Commerce stream in the HS examination the results of which were announced today.

Pratiksha, daughter of Prabin Borkotoky and Mousumi Borkotoky scored a total mark of 457 with an aggregate 91.4% to beg the 9th rank. On the other hand, Mritika, daughter of Manik Kanti Nath and Rita Nath has scored a total mark of 456 with an aggregate 91.2% to secure the 10th rank.

Talking to The Sentinel, Pratiksha shared that she studied for 8 to 9 hours a day. Stating that she is fascinated for both teaching and learning, Pratiksha said, “I am aspiring to become a professor in future. Therefore, I will study B Com with Accountancy in Gauhati Commerce College itself.” Expressing deep gratitude to her teachers and parents, Pratiksha said that their help and guidance can never be acknowledged in few words. She also took help of coaching classes. “I did my best to secure a good percentage. However, I did not expect a rank,” she added. Besides learning Kathak dance, Pratiksha is also equally a music lover. Pratiksha also secured 93% in the last HSLC examination.

Sharing her delight with The Sentinel, Mritika said that she studied, keeping her health in mind. She also spent a good time in sporting. She will also study B Com in Gauhati Commerce College.

While congratulating Pratiksha and Mritika on their achievement, Gauhati Commerce College Principal Homeswar Kalita said that the teaching community of the nstitution desired a lot. However, he said that the excellence of an institution cannot be evaluated based only on the rank holders. Stating that the government colleges maintain a different methodology of teaching, Kalita said government college teachers exercise more leaves than the private colleges which affect the number of calendar days for teaching.

Meanwhile, responding to a question on the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 both the toppers opposed the Bill while criticizing the division of foreigners on the religious line and opined that the Bill is not suitable to Assam.

Altogether, as many as 131 students have secured star marks from the Gauhati Commerce College in the HS examination. Moreover, 272 students have passed the exam in first division, 108 students in second division and 42 in third divisions. This year, none of the students could secure letter marks in Bengali while 636 students have secured letter marks in various subjects. However, as high as 151 students have secured letter marks in Alternative English this year.
