Girl Child Week concludes at Longleng

KOHIMA: Celebration of the 'Girl Child Week' concluded at Longleng recently. It was observed under the theme 'Empowering girls for a brighter tomorrow' both at St. Joseph’s School, Phom Lempong School Longleng and Tamlu village. The main objective of this celebration is to spread awareness on girl child rights and facts of life and to address the girl child issues associated to their health, education, nutrition etc. The programme was jointly organized by the Mahila Shakti Kendra along with DTF BBBP and OSC Longleng.

Phungla Phom, Women Welfare Officer MSK Longleng stressed on the importance of girl child rights and encouraged them to fight against all odds and become a woman with dignity. OSC administrator Henchem Phom highlighted on the functioning of OSC and the services provided under the scheme. High school girl students and teachers participated in the programme,stated a release.

After the programme, an ice-breaking session was held where the girl students were given opportunities to explore their talents where the students presented their original songs, poems, speech etc. This was done to make one realize their potentials and take the right decision for their future career. To extend support towards the initiative programme under the scheme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, gift hampers were given to all the girls students who attended the programme.
