Golaghat girl gang-raped in gaon

GAON, May 6: Tension prevailed here today following the alleged gang raped of a girl in gaon town on Thursday at around 8-30 pm. The victim was coming from Golaghat to stay at her brother’s place. The incident took place at Khutikatia Kushal gar area under Haibargaon police outpost.
Police sources said that the victim was coming from Golaghat to his brother’s place, who resides at Kushal gar. Both the victim and her brother were walking through the alley to the resident when the miscreants comprising of five to six people restrained them on their way. The miscreants first severely thrashed the brother of the victim and later dragged the girl to a secluded place and repeatedly raped her.
The miscreants even tried to kill the victim but she was filly rescued. The victim and her brother were hospitalized by police. The culprits were identified as Rafique alias Raja, Siddique, Mustafa, Mun and Iran who reside near the Railway line of Kushal gar.
As the news about the incident was spread in the area, hundreds of people come out from their houses and blocked NH 37. They demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits. The police arrived at the place and convinced the crowd to be calm.
But the tension was not over in the morning on Friday as thousands of people from Khutikotia, Sensua, Lakhigar took to the street and slammed the administration for their failure to provide security to the woman.
The irate mob blocked the NH 37 and some of them went to the railway line of Kushal gar and set fire at the houses of the people who illegally reside there.
Later police resorted to baton charge to disperse the mob where seven people were injured. Again on 3 pm thousands of people assembled at Khutikotia and carried on their protest demonstration demanding punishment to the culprits. Top officials of the administration rushed to the spot and tried to convince the people but normalcy has not returned till the time of filing this report.
Various organizations including AASU, AJYCP, AYS, gaon Bar Association, gaon Press Club, BJP Yuva Marcha , gaon district unit, Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad, Pragatishil ri Santha, AGP gaon district unit condemned the incident and criticized the failure of the district administration to provide security to the people including woman.
Following the latest update it could be known that police have arrested the prime accused of the incident Rafique alias Raja and interrogating him to b the other accused.
