Gold worth Rs 2.50 crore seized at Guwahati Railway Station

GUWAHATI: A train checking party of the Government Railway Police (GRP) seized five gold bars weighing 7998.770 gm from a youth bound for Kolkata from Guwahati Railway Station on Monday.

The youth, identified as Kiran Vishwanath Patil (31) hailing from Maharashtra, was supposed to board the Saraighat Express. His ticket has shown coach No. A1 and seat No. 23. He was arrested when he was loitering in platform No. 2 of the railway station. The consignment was kept hidden under the waist belt by the youth. The five gold bars are worth around Rs 2.50 crore. The youth has been handed over to the Customs for further action. In another development, a train checking party recovered 28,800 sticks of Korean-made cigarettes contained in 144 packets (each packets containing 10 small packets and each small packets contained 20 sticks) from the possession of two persons namely- Sekar Karuppaiya (36) and his wife Angala Iswari (33) in Guwahati Railway Station on Monday. The couple was passengers of Dn 15930 Chennai Express.
