Golden Langur Hope For Assam State Zoo, Guwahati

GUWAHATI: As per the mandate of the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi, Assam State Zoo, Guwahati, was selected and entrusted to proceed with the Conservation Breeding Programme of Golden Langur, which is endemic to the north-western parts of Assam.

The Project for the Conservation Breeding of Golden Langur In Assam State Zoo was started in the year 2011-12. On April 2018, upon an experimental basis, a suitable pair of Golden Langur, from the current display enclosure, was shifted to a breeding site, with a hope to initiate breeding between the female, named Lovely and the male named Bolin.

The success was seen on December 26, 2018, with the birth of a female offspring, from the mated pair of Golden Langur, which is at present, fiercely guarded and cared by its mother. This has brought a renewed hope in the Conservation Breeding initiatives of the Assam State Zoo, Guwahati and can be termed as a success story.
