Government draws flak for not filling vacant posts

LAKHIMPUR, June 25: The All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) expressed strong reaction over the alleged lackadaisical attitude on the part of the State government with regard to appointment in thousands of vacant posts in the government departments of the State. In a press release, Nilamoni Hazarika and Jiban Rajkhowa, the president and secretary of AAUA, condemned this attitude of the government.

“The State government which came to power promising to mitigate the unemployment problem in the State, is seen busy only in delivering lectures on the issue. The government is overwhelmed by appointing only 45,000 unemployed persons in the Education Department. The Police Department has failed to provide security to the common people as there are more than 15,000 posts lying vacant in the department. Our organization condemns the government for not taking any action to fill up the posts when thousands of posts are lying vacant in the State,” the press release stated.

Further, the organization lambasted the State Power Minister and the General Manager of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for the decision to appoint retired personnel in the vacant posts of the company. In this regard, the organization submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of APDCL demanding the termination of the decision and the appointment of deserving unemployed candidates in these posts by conducting interview after the publication of advertisement.
