Government Has Failed To Execute Important Schemes: MLA Durga Bhumij

DOOMDOOMA: In his wake-up call to the government, MLA Durga Bhumij said after announcement of the HSLC exam results that it was time for admission. But would the government be able to cope with the situation in view of its failure to execute some of the important projects?

Addressing a press meet at Doomdooma Press Club on Thursday, MLA Durga Bhumij said that the recent order of the State Government to cancel the non-sanctioned posts in colleges would play havoc in smooth running of the academic calendar of the colleges. He, therefore, appealed to the government to reconsider its decision. He deplored that the State Government had made a budget proposal in 2017-18 to start a new college at Doomdooma. But nothing materialized even after acquisition of land for the purpose. The same is the condition of Dirak Model College. Even after its inauguration three months ago, no admission process has been initiated, he said.

Further, as per cabinet decision, 100 high schools were to be started in 100 tea gardens and existing garden LP schools were to be upgrade to ME schools. But no work has been started, he alleged. The government announced many a schemes to allure the tea labourers. But those schemes remained confined to announcement only, he said. The condition of the hostel of the tea-tribes students at Rupaisiding was also in a deplorable condition without proper sanitation. But equally regrettable was the fact that the girls’ hostel meant for tea-tribes girl students near Don Bosco High School, Rupaisiding was yet to come up.

In the case of sports and youth welfare also the same condition can be seen. The Rs 10-crore signature project at Doomdooma Town Field could not be taken up even now. On the healthcare front also, the work of Kordoiguri hospital could not be started and the hospital at Tongona was in half-done stage. The flood and erosion problem was another major problem of the area. Of late, the existence of Kordoiguri Xatra was under threat. Moreover, erosion had taken serious turn in No.3 Kordoiguri village and many families took shelter in Kordoiguri High school for the past many years.

Similarly, erosion has taken away sizeable section of land in tea-estates like Dorjijan, Baghjan and Digulturrung. So anti-flood protection measures should be taken up by the government in the right earnest on a war footing. On top of it, the ravages wrought by the ghastly storm on May 12 rendered many people homeless.

But the government has failed even to provide tarpaulin to the victims, let alone providing compensation to them, said the MLA. He appealed to the government to look into the matter and take effective steps to solve them.
