Dibrugarh, May 12: The 6th circle conference of the Sanchar Nigam Executives’ Association (SNEA), was organized by SNEA, Assam Circle, on Friday.
The meeting of SNEA, the only recognized majority association of officers and engineers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), witnessed many senior members of the organization speaking on the progress of the company, as well as the existing lacunae. The chief guest of the conference was General Manager, HR, Assam Circle, Kishore Kumar.
Addressing the gathering, president and general secretary of Circle Headquarters, BSNL, AA Khan and Sebastian, in their respective speeches highlighted many crucial issues. They opined that at a time when private telecom players were advancing towards adopting the 5 G technology from 4 G, BSNL was still running on 3 G. They lamented the fact that despite the organization having all the resources and a huge manpower at its disposal, the government was not supporting it the way it should. Therefore, they appealed to the government to intervene and put BSNL at par with the private operators.
Vice-president of Assam Pradesh Bank Employees’ Association (APBEA), Dhrubaj Bardhan, in his speech, held that the Union Government was deliberately acting against the interests of the organized public sector of the country, as well as all forms of trade unions. He added that increasing the cap on FDI investments in the country would prove detrimental to the domestic industry, including the banking sector. Vardhan further underscored the sorry state of affairs of the bank employees, and said that despite the prolonged and repeated strikes of the employees, the government agreed to a raise of just 2 per cent, which too had not been put into effect yet.
